Zoey stars in her first Beauty of S.T.E.M. video to show off her NFC enabled tutu for #WearableWednesday.
My friend guided her six-year-old daughter (M2) through making Zoey’s tutu, while she braided my hair. M2 plays with Zoey, each time she visits and heard me talking to her mom about my making goals for the month of May. As we gathered items to sit on the porch, she asks if she could make Zoey’s tutu. I agreed, and she worked with her mom to cut strips of tulle and an elastic band. M2 had been watching us make tutu since she was born, during The Beauty of S.T.E.M. sessions.
Now that M2 made Zoey’s tutu, I was able to add some fabric, to match the skirt I’m planning to make for myself. At the beginning of the month, I purchased this beautiful fabric from the Ujamaa Collective which immediately spoke to my vision of using Zoey to share stories about #thebeautyofstem while twinning. The pattern on the fabric is also perfect for talking about spatial representation with early learners and embedding lights.
My final addition to Zoey’s tutu was NFC Nail Stickers to give it the light up effect. The nail stickers work by tapping them against a mobile device with the NFC feature enabled. Watch the video to see Zoey’s lit tutu in action.
