October was OUTSTANDING! Aunt JaChelle took me on a trip to New York City. It was so much fun!
We started our day at Meet & get your photo with Lupita Nyong’o for Sulwe at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square. We arrived early in the morning to get good seats. While waiting for Lupita to arrive, we received a signed copy of Sulwe and filled in a star to tell Lupita how we shine. We also made friends with audience members and shared our excitement to hear the reading and get our picture taken.
Lupita’s reading of Sulwe was pure joy. When she walked out onto the stage, she gave the audience a moment to take pictures and videos. Then she asked us to put our devices away and follow along as she read. She read and sang, and we were enthralled by her words and the illustrations by Vashti Harrison.
Aunt J was excited to learn the Sulwe website has a downloadable activity guide and curriculum guide for adults.
After our photo with Lupita Nyong’o, we headed out to explore the city:
- We rode the M line on the NYC subway.
- A new friend told us to visit Sony Square NYC (a public space committed to showcasing innovative products.) It was the 40th Anniversary of the Walkman.
- Of course, Aunt J let me play in the park.
- We loved playing at the Lego Store.
- I stood in the bright lights of Times Square.
- We enjoyed the M&M Store in Times Square.
New Map Layer
Aunt JaChelle has a virtual map to help early learners like me explore the world. She added a new layer (Zoey’s Zone) to the map to pin (yellow) our trips. I can’t wait to tell mom all about it! Mommy and I once traveled to visit my grandparents, but this trip was different.
